PILGRIMAGES

Međugorje, a little city with something over 3500 inhabitants, is located 25 km southwest of Mostar, the biggest urban centre of Herzegovina. Until 20 years ago Međugorje was a village, hardly anyone has ever heard of. However, in summer 1981 a group of 6 children from the area experienced the Apparition of Virgin Mother, and since then many things have changed.

During the last 24 years Međugorje has become one of the worldwide most important pilgrimage destinations, such as Lourdes in France or Fatima in Portugal. Not even during the worst days of the Bosnian war have the pilgrimages stopped. Today there are more than 3 million pilgrims visiting Međugorje.
